On any other day, CalvinAir Helicopters Chief Pilot, Steve Gray, would be wearing his uniform and preparing for takeoff. But last Thursday he was dressed in his bright red Santa costume – complete with his sack of gifts – and rehearsing his Ho, Ho, Hos in front the mirror.

His mission? To bring Christmas cheer and gifts to the children and residents of both the Friends Foundation and the Care Project, all of whom he says were on his “good” list.

Search For Missing Teen Shamar Harrigan Takes To Air

The search for missing Willikies teen Shamar Harrigan was yesterday joined by helicopters scouring Antigua’s east coast from the air.The Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) volunteered the use of CalvinAir Helicopters, manned by experienced search and rescue pilots, to assist with locating the 19-year-old who has autism and has been missing since November 14.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda recently signed an air services agreement with the French Republic, the first such agreement between France and an OECS Member State. Under the new agreement Antigua and Barbuda has designated LIAT 1974 Ltd and CalvinAir Helicopters as its national carriers while the French authorities have designated Air France, Air Antilles, St Barth Commuter and St Barth Executive as its designated national airlines on the routes.

I’m in the cockpit of an Airbus EC130 CalvinAir helicopter and, as pilot Mark Fleming tilts the controls, the island rushes toward us. It appears like a rainbow tourmaline, a crystalline speck of green forest fringed by white and pink sand, in a vast sea of blue.

A 42-year-old man is now recovering at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) after allegedly receiving a stab wound to the lower right abdomen on the sister-isle over the weekend.

The patient was medically evacuated to seek further surgical attention on the mainland.

A Barbudan teen is now doing much better, after experiencing a medical emergency on the sister isle on Thursday, June 3. Fourteen year-old Patrice Jeffrey and her mom, Ionie Jeffrey, spent a tiring 24-hours at the Hanna Thomas Hospital, where the teen’s condition was considered serious enough for Head Resident Doctor, Dr. Jeremy Deazel, to recommend that she be medevac’d to the Mt. St. John’s Medical Centre.

Team Antigua Pairs gets welcomed visit – by air

From one thousand feet in the air, Team Antigua Pairs seem like mere specs in a vast sea as they continue to complete their final leg across the sea, destined to make landfall into Nelson’s Dockyard this afternoon. A helicopter flyover – made possible through CalvinAir Helicopters – facilitated the reunion, and while still a distance apart, it was an emotional reconnection – one that Observer was present to witness.
